Malaysia-based broadcast systems integrator Digistar has chosen Custom Consoles furniture at the core of a new construction project for a large television and film production facility in Iskandar, Malaysia.

Six Module-R desks and six Media Wall co-ordinated monitor displays have been installed across two identically equipped television control rooms, each divided into three suites: Sound Control, Production Control and Lighting & Vision Control. The order also included 15 of the recently introduced EditOne desks plus side-pedestals and a Module-R desk for a central Ingest area.

“Custom Consoles Module-R and Media Wall gave us the freedom to order furniture from an industry-proven range of component modules,” comments Russ Jones, Chief Engineer at Digistar. The result exactly matches our customer’s requirements in terms of functionality, stability, visual elegance and dimensions. For the post-production suites where we needed stand-alone furniture, the EditOne series proved ideal.”

Sound Control Room 1 and 2 are equipped with an L-shaped Module-R desk plus a 1.5 metre wide Media Wall. Both sound control desks has 13U-high equipment bays at each end and incorporate a removable panel to accommodate various audio mixers. Depending on production requirements, 3U or 4U movable equipment pods can be positioned anywhere along the desktop. Cabling to the equipment pods is via a brush strip running the entire width of each desk.

Production Control Room 1 and 2 each comprise a Module-R desk facing a 2 metre wide Media Wall and a rear desk for clients or special production requirements. The forward desk is assigned to production control and has seating for up to six operators. A removable panel allows integration of various vision switchers. Movable pods can be located on each desktop, again linked via full-desk-width brush strip cable access. The rear desks in Production Control Room 1 and 2 each provide space for up to four clients plus support equipment in movable desktop pods.

Lighting & Vision Control 1 and 2 both consist of a Media Wall plus a desk with seating for up to three staff: tape operator on the left, lighting engineer in the middle and vision control engineer at right. This desk is fitted with three Ergotron user-adjustable monitor display support arms. A forward-facing single-user desk alongside a 28U equipment bay are located at the rear.

A mix-and-matchable control room furniture system, the Module-R product range allows aesthetically attractive and long-life desks to be configured to meet specific shapes and dimensions from a selection of high-quality pods, base sections, 19 inch rack housings, worktops, end-panel modules and legs. Coordinated desk pods are available as single-bay sections with up 10U chassis capacity.

Developed for use in video editing suites, broadcast graphics areas and audio studio control rooms, Custom Consoles EditOne desks go beyond the traditional rectangular configuration by using sculpted MDF support panels rather than metal legs. The curved theme is carried through to the desktop and a raised monitor shelf. Integral equipment pods are provided.  An auxiliary equipment pedestal with an additional 11U of rack space and an integral worktop is available. Designed for flat-pack delivery, the desk can be assembled in less than an hour using the supplied Allen key and screwdriver.

Custom Consoles Media Wall allows flat-screen monitor displays of practically any width to be constructed from standard horizontal and vertical support elements. It can be used as a fully self-supporting structure or coupled directly to the studio wall. Individual screens can be positioned so that their edges meet exactly to form a continuous horizontal display limited only by the boundary of the monitor panel itself. All wiring is fully concealed and can enter or leave the structure at any desired point. Media Wall is available in a silver-anodised or black-powder coated finish and in any specified element widths.
