Viz Media Engine Online 2.5 Enhanced Graphics and VOD Workflow

The new Viz Media Engine Online 2.5 release features several new features for improving graphics handling with video on demand (VOD) assets, embedded closed captioning, Akamai support, Viz Reporter for Android and other tools for delivering video content online and to mobile devices.

Viz Media Engine Online is the online package for Viz Media Engine that provides focused support for online and mobile publishing.

Multiple layers of Vizrt Graphics

When adding graphics to VOD assets using the Viz Engine, it is now possible to add several scenes to the same part of a video, e.g., a lower 3, a map, and an over-the shoulder together with a logo or a courtesy field. Different graphics layers are used to control the z-orientation of the different graphics elements if the graphics are used in the same screen position. This gives significantly more freedom in determining the timing and placement of graphics and allows for more complex graphics. The setup consists of a standard Online VOD package combined with one or more Viz Engines. The setup can be scaled to achieve real-time speed for both video and graphics processing.

Closed Caption Support

It is now possible to add sidecar files with closed captioning to digital items. During transcoding, the profile specifies whether closed captioning should be embedded or burned-in and in what format. We support WebVTT, SRT, SSA and CEA-608 caption formats.

Akamai Support

It is now possible to connect an Akamai CDN as an extension to Viz Media Engine. Both RTSP and HLS streaming protocols can be connected for high volume video distribution. HLS streams are forwarded to Akamai using HTTP Post. The support includes use of the Akamai token authorization when publishing HLS streams to the Akamai Live HLS Origin Server. This will automatically be enabled and applied for content published in restricted mode on the VME Online server when published to a configured Akamai Live HLS Origin Server.

Viz Reporter for Android

A new version of Viz Reporter for Android is now available for file uploads from Android 4.x phones. The application supports upload of audio- and video files and metadata in the very robust upload protocol. The application is hosted on the Google Play store. The existing iOS version is available in the Apple App Store.

Logo Insertion/Still Image Overlay

For VOD content it is now possible to insert device-adapted logos on the transcoded material. The images are overlaid on the video during transcoding from the specified start and duration times for the overlay without adding extra time to the transcode process. Logo insertion can also be combined with Vizrt Graphics.

Brightcove Support

Content can now be delivered through the Brightcove video player. The Viz Media Engine registers videos in the Brightcove API and deliver the Brightcove media IDs from our API.
