Ustream Joins the IBM Bluemix Cloud Platform to Bring Video Capabilities to Developers

Ustream,u announced it is collaborating with global technology firm IBM to incorporate video streaming capabilities into Bluemix, IBM’s open cloud development platform. With more than 75 services and tools from across the industry available, Bluemix offers developers the instant infrastructure and tooling needed to build the most innovative cloud-based apps possible, incorporating technologies such as advanced analytics, security, cognitive computing, social data integration, and now interactive streaming video.

“We’ve seen substantial growth in the use of video by large companies as a primary way to increase visibility and reach customers and partners,” said Brad Hunstable, CEO and founder of Ustream. “By incorporating services such as Ustream’s video platform into the Bluemix cloud, IBM is making it easy for organizations to use video as an integral component of their applications, without needing to overcome the significant time and expense barriers of building a video platform.”

Ustream is the first video platform to be made available through Bluemix, giving developers the ability to easily incorporate video into their applications. With this integration, Ustream has simplified the process of developing video-intensive cloud applications for developers by providing them with easy command-line and script-based control of video streaming.

“We’re thrilled to add Ustream’s interactive live video platform to the continually expanding roster of cloud development tools on Bluemix,” said Sandy Carter, General Manager of IBM Ecosystem Development. “As Bluemix users continue to build the next evolution of cloud apps for mobile, Big Data, the IoT and more, incorporating rich media such as video streaming will be crucial to designing an optimal user experience.”
