Video Lighting Workshop for HD & 4K Productions

As resolutions in production increase (Ultra HD is four times the resolution of Full HD), the way you light your subjects becomes even more important. When your camera sees EVERYTHING, it’s your job to show your talent and locations in their best light. While the light sources that you use in video production and filmmaking are important, it’s how you shape and control those sources that really make the difference. And it’s even more important when we move from HD to 4K productions. In this full day workshop by Jem Schofield of theC47, he will focus on using light to achieve cinematic results (mainly low-key lighting techniques), in documentary, corporate and narrative productions. Focus will be in using small kits that don’t require large crews (common on today’s productions).

Target Audience

The workshop is intended for DPs, camera operators and aspiring filmmakers interested in understanding how to quickly and effectively light projects for both HD and 4K productions.

Topics Covered

  • How to create large, soft light sources
  • Low-key lighting for documentary, corporate and narrative projects
  • Understanding and working effectively with different color temperature lights
  • Quickly setting up for great looking interviews regardless of the subject
  • How to bounce, block, cut & diffuse light sources quickly & effectively
  • Working with soft and hard light sources together

4K Camera and HDR Production Workshop

UHD, 4K, 5K, 6K, 8K, HDR, Color Spaces, Rec.709 vs. BT.2020, Log, LUT’s, RAW, Raw, raw?! What are they? When do you use them? How do you use them? As modern 4K+ digital cinema cameras evolve and become more affordable, it is important that you not only learn one particular camera system but how modern production works as a whole.
With digital cinema cameras from companies such as ARRI, Blackmagic, Canon, Panasonic, Sony & RED allowing for not only 4K acquisition but also HDR recording with huge color spaces, multiple recording options (resolutions & codecs), Raw & Log recording and plethora of other options, it’s hard to sort everything out. That’s what this workshop will focus on.
In this full day workshop with Jem Schofield of theC47, he will take attendees through the process of understanding how modern digital cinema cameras work so you can make informed decisions in terms of how to shoot your next project/s. While he will use certain cameras to go over these features and choices, the data covered in the workshop will apply to all modern digital camera systems.
