Accedo Delivers NRK to Smart TVs and Games Consoles

Accedo announces it is powering the VOD service being launched by Norway’s public broadcaster, NRK, at IFA, Berlin on 5th September.

The VOD service from NRK will be launched across Smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sony, and Philips, as well as on PlayStation 3 and 4. The service, which is already available on PCs, tablets, mobile, and, most recently, Apple TV, includes a wide range of compelling content, with more than 40,000 free programs.

The User Interface is powered by Accedo’s multiscreen solution, Accedo VIA™, which is due to be officially launched at IBC. Accedo VIA enables operators to launch compelling VOD and Linear TV services more quickly across multiple platforms. The NRK SVOD solution consists of two separate applications, one main application NRK TV and the NRK Super application, which is specifically adapted for kids. NRK Super uses a different user interface with simplified navigation, making it easy for youngsters.

“We are seeing a major trend from public service broadcasters launching services across multiple connected devices, which gives consumers access to engaging content free to view on a range of platforms, which NRK pioneers,” commented Elin Askfelt, VP EMEA Accedo. “This service will enable NRK to extend its reach across the country.”

“We are pleased to be working with Accedo to bring our service to multiple connected device platforms,” commented Erik Bolstad, Head of TV and radio development at the NRK. “We have been extremely pleased with the response to our recent applications launched and this is the next phase in reaching the connected TV segment with our portfolio of on-demand content, and bringing TV content back to where it belongs – the TV screen.”
